History

The Azara Group was founded in 2013 by Fatimah Gilliam. She has spent many years of her career advising clients through complex negotiations, repositioning companies and individuals to increase their bargaining powers, and developing strategic approaches for organizations. After negotiating on behalf of companies and institutions in billion-dollar deals and counseling professionals on how to best advance their careers, she decided to launch her own company.

Through her legal, corporate, business, and public sector work, Ms. Gilliam saw that many people lacked a strong understanding of how to best navigate negotiations. Too often, she witnessed business professionals, senior executives, and global institutions significantly stumble when attempting to use influencing skills to advance goals and hit their bottom line. She also saw many women and people of color struggle in getting to the next level in their careers, and worked to improve career mobility for diverse employees.

Seeing a clear need to help people and organizations become more strategic, Ms. Gilliam created The Azara Group to help fill this gap. Founded on a core mission of helping others succeed and be their best selves, The Azara Group seeks to support people and organizations achieve better results and become more effective business and industry leaders. The Azara Group believes that through effectively using strong negotiation and persuasion skills, business professionals and companies can achieve greater success. It also believes that creating a more inclusive workplace improves profitability for companies and increases an institution’s ability to retain quality diverse talent.
